Way back in 1996 I attended my first yoga class. It was Kundalini yoga. I felt an immediate connection; this was it! I strive to honor that connection by continuing my daily practice and teaching to serve others. Level 1 Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training was completed in 2002 at the Baba Shri Chand Ashram in Orlando. Great credit is due to the wonderful teachers there who guided and inspired me.
I moved to Portland in 2004 and quickly connected with the Kundalini Yoga Community here, serving on the Board of Directors for the last 2.5 years as Treasurer. My wife, Hari Prem and I were married in 2008. For the last 5 years I have been teaching at the Awakenings Wellness Center and have been blessed with a wonderful group of students who have challenged me to grow as a teacher. I believe that everyone is challenged in class in their own way; some are quite flexible and strong, yet are challenged to be still and meditate. I strive to create a class that meets you where you are. I want you to leave feeling relaxed and blissful.
I offer an intermediate level Kundalini Yoga class. It is beginner accessible if you are up for a challenge in a supportive class environment. Kundalini Yoga is a multifaceted style that has a strong spiritual basis. It uses movement and postures, conscious breathing techniques, chanting mantras, mudras, bhandas, visualizing energy flow and meditation. We will move, breathe, chant and meditate. Every class has a specific spiritual purpose. Some of my favorite teaching themes are Self Healing, Conscious Breathing, Opening the Heart Center, and Navel Chakra balancing.
The 1.5 hour class starts with a chant to tune in, then stretching and warmups. The main set will last 30-45 minutes where we explore the class theme. A meditation follows, usually 11 minutes or longer. I often end class with a Gong Bath while you lie in savasana; this is a deeply relaxing immersion in sound energy healing. I’m excited to be joining Shakti House.
Many Blessings, Siri
